Santander Bank Announces Strategic Modernization of Its Northeast Branch Network

04/27/2026

Today, Santander Bank (“the Bank” or “Santander”) announced major investments in its Northeast branch banking franchise, including new flagship locations, a major branch renovation program, and workforce capability investments meant to reinforce the Bank’s long-term commitment to the region.

As part of the initiative, Santander will open several flagship branches in key Northeast markets, including locations in Manhattan at 437 Madison Ave, near Grand Central, and Union Square, and is actively identifying additional flagship sites in Boston and Philadelphia. These flagship locations will showcase Santander’s advisory services and technology, while serving as hubs for small business and wealth solutions.

Additionally, Santander plans a substantial renovation program, with more than 60 branch renovations underway in 2026 and further work planned through 2028. These upgrades, part of a multi-year capital investment program, will modernize customer and employee spaces and better reflect the needs of each local community.

This year, Santander also intends to consolidate eight branches to streamline its services and redirect investment into flagship sites and renovations. The Bank will continue to optimize the branch network and will notify customers directly about any location changes in advance. Consolidations scheduled for mid-year can be found here.

“Our focus is simple: make it easier for customers to do business with us by strengthening our branches and investing in the people who serve them every day. Our branches are central to how we build trust and deliver advice – creating consistent, personal experiences in every community we serve. When we equip our teams to build deeper relationships and execute with confidence, our customers feel the difference.”

Focusing on its people, the Bank is investing in frontline capability-building, expanding career growth opportunities for tellers, and rolling out targeted leadership and training programs. Santander is also implementing selective operating model changes, including a limited multi-site Branch Manager approach in locations where it best serves customers and supports career progression, while maintaining a focus on manager accountability. These updates are designed to create a purpose-built branch network and faster, more personal service for customers.
