Chris Motl is Head of Commercial Banking at Santander US, responsible for leading Santander Bank’s commercial business and growth strategy.

Prior to Santander’s acquisition of Webster Bank in 2026, Chris spent more than 20 years at Webster, where he most recently served as Senior Executive Vice President and President of Commercial Banking. In this role, he led all of Webster’s Commercial Banking business segments, including Commercial Real Estate, Middle Market Banking, Sponsor & Specialty Finance, Equipment Finance, Asset Based Lending, Treasury Management, and Private Banking.

Chris joined Webster in 2004 as the co-founder of the company’s Sponsor & Specialty Finance Group. Over the course of his tenure, he helped drive the continued growth and expansion of the Commercial Banking business. Following Webster’s merger with Sterling National Bank in 2022, Chris assumed leadership of the combined Commercial Banking team. Prior to joining Webster, Chris served as Vice President at CoBank.

Chris serves on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Bankers Association and the board of the Travelers Championship. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder.
