Mr. Matarranz joined the Santander Holdings USA, Inc. Board in July 2015, and is a member of the Compensation and Executive Committees. He is also a Director of Santander Bank, N.A., where he is a member of the Compensation Committee.
Currently, Mr. Matarranz is a Senior Executive Vice President and the Head of Group Strategy at Banco Santander, S.A. since September 2014, and he is Chief of Staff to the Group Executive Chairman. Previously, he was a member of the Executive Committee, the Director of Strategy, and the Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer of Santander UK. In this position, Mr. Matarranz was responsible for providing support to the chief executive, articulating the bank’s strategy and three-year plans and planning and implementing strategic projects.
Prior to joining Banco Santander, S.A., Mr. Matarranz was a Partner at McKinsey & Company in Madrid, where he worked for 12 years, primarily in the financial services practice. He advised local and global banks on strategic and retail banking issues. He has worked around the world, including in Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Latin America.
Mr. Matarranz received his M.S. in Telecommunications Engineering from the Politechnical University of Madrid and his MBA with a specialization in Finance from the London Business School, where he graduated with distinction.
