Mr. Spillenkothen joined the Santander Holdings USA, Inc. Board in June 2015, and he is the Chairman of the Risk Committee and a member of the Compensation and Executive Committees. He is also a Director of Santander Bank, N.A., where he is a member of the Risk and Audit Committees.
He served from 2013-2015 as a member of the Board, Risk, and Audit committees of Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (USA), and from 2007-2011 as a Director and Senior Adviser in Deloitte and Touche's regulatory, risk management, and capital markets consulting practices. Prior to entering the private sector, he had a career of over 30 years at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and served as Director of the Federal Reserve Board’s Division of Banking Supervision and Regulation from 1991 to 2006. In this capacity, Mr. Spillenkothen was the senior Federal Reserve Board staff official with responsibility for banking supervision and regulation policy. He worked with the Federal Reserve Banks, who have day-to-day responsibility for supervising bank and financial holding companies, state member banks, and the U.S. activities of foreign banks. He also coordinated financial institution supervisory policy with other federal, state and foreign banking authorities, and with the international supervisory coordinating bodies. Previously, Mr. Spillekothen served on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision from 1992 to 2006, and he was the Chairman of the Board of the Association of Supervisors of Banks of the Americas from 2003 until 2006.
Mr. Spillenkothen holds an A.B. degree from Harvard University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
